Change 5 Dietary Habits to Prevent Kidney Stones!

Just like most chronic diseases, kidney stones can be prevented by following few simple lifestyle and dietary rules! All you need is the proper state of mind and the will to take control over your pains by changing slight factors in your life. It is effortless, and you can do it! Here is what you need to prevent kidney stones!

1- Drink a lot of water:

If you are at risk or have already passed some kidney stones, you need to drink about 2.5 liters of water daily or even more! How do you know if you are drinking enough? Very simple! Your urine should be light in color and abundant! Keep in mind that your body needs to generate about 2 liters of urine on a daily basis! If this is your case, then you are on the safe side!

2- Eat less food containing oxalates:

It is true that some of the oxalate found in our urine is made by our body; however, the majority comes from eating food high in it. Food such as okra, spinach, Swiss chard, sweet potatoes, nuts, tea, chocolate, and soy are very high in oxalate. Avoiding these foods will drastically lower the amount of oxalate in the urine!

3- Lower your salt intake

You can achieve this, primarily, by avoiding processed and canned food as well as sauces. Understanding the salt content of your daily diet will make it simple for you to control the sodium intake. This will help prevent kidney stones and well as maintaining your blood pressure on good terms!

4- Try to get your protein needs from legumes.

Animal proteins (meat, animal organs, dairy, eggs) contain purines that break down in the urine into uric acid. If you are the kind of people whose body tends to form uric acid stones, you need to limit your animal protein intake.

5- Avoid taking calcium supplements.

Please understand that food containing calcium will probably not cause these stones! It is quite the opposite: when you have a diet low in calcium, you are more likely to form these kidney stones.

It is simple!
